Airports

For an incentive trip, guests fly into these airports.

JFK: mostly international flights, about 15 miles from Midtown. LaGuardia, LGA: mainly domestic flights, about 8 miles from Midtown and the closest of the three. Newark, EWR: domestic and international flights, about 16 miles from Midtown. Smaller metro airports: Westchester County (HPN), Stewart (SWF) and Long Island MacArthur (ISP).
Getting there

For an incentive trip, this is how guests get from the airport.

From JFK, take the AirTrain to the subway or the LIRR; the ride from there to Penn Station or Grand Central Madison takes about 20 minutes, plus the AirTrain. From LaGuardia, MTA buses connect to the subway. From Newark, the AirTrain connects to NJ Transit and Amtrak trains into Manhattan. By rail, Amtrak trains arrive at Moynihan Train Hall, and LIRR trains also run to Grand Central Madison on Manhattan's east side. NYC Ferry runs daily in all five boroughs, and the Staten Island Ferry runs year-round. On Gridlock Alert Days, plan to walk, bike or take transit instead of driving.
Best months
Late spring is mild: the National Weather Service's current 30-year normals for Central Park put May at 71.4°F and June at 79.7°F. Early fall follows in the same normals, with September at 76.2°F and October at 64.5°F, outside UNGA week. Early November works before the holiday traffic days begin.
Worst months
Late September, during UNGA week, brings street closures across Manhattan. From mid-November into December, holiday Gridlock Alert Days and a Midtown construction embargo slow traffic. January averages a high of 39.5°F and February brings 10.1 inches of snow in the same normals.
Events to avoid

For an incentive trip, these citywide dates fill the city.

  • UN General Assembly high-level week

September 2027; the general debate opens Tuesday, Sept 21

For an incentive trip: pick another week, since Manhattan street closures make transfers to dinners and hotels slow.

  • New York Fashion Week

    Feb 10–16, 2027

For an incentive trip: check a February reward trip against the show calendar before you hold rooms.

  • TCS New York City Marathon

    Sunday, Nov 1, 2026 and Sunday, Nov 7, 2027

For an incentive trip: avoid a Sunday arrival or departure that weekend, when streets and bridges close across the city.

  • Thanksgiving week and the Macy's Parade

    Thursday, Nov 26, 2026 (the 100th parade)

For an incentive trip: it is a holiday week, and the parade closes streets on its route.

  • Holiday Gridlock Alert Days

    December 31, 2026

For an incentive trip: unless the party is the reward, keep hosted moments away from Times Square closures.

Frequently asked questions

When is a good time for an incentive trip in New York?

Late spring and early fall suit a reward trip with time outside. The National Weather Service's current 30-year normals for Central Park give average highs of 71.4°F in May, 79.7°F in June, 76.2°F in September and 64.5°F in October, while July averages 84.9°F. Late September is the exception, since UNGA week brings street closures across Manhattan; in 2027 the general debate opens on Tuesday, September 21. Winter is cold for guests who want to walk: in the same normals, January averages a high of 39.5°F and February brings 10.1 inches of snow, so a winter trip leans on indoor evenings.

Where in New York should qualifiers and guests spend their time?

Pick a hotel near the subway, then give each day one setting. Central Park covers 843 acres for a morning walk, and the High Line suits an unhurried stroll. In Brooklyn, Brooklyn Bridge Park offers riverfront promenades and city views, and Brooklyn Botanic Garden rents the glass-enclosed Palm House for a garden reception. On Staten Island, Historic Richmond Town offers group visits through restored buildings that trace the island's past. Guests who would rather wander can ride the subway on their own.

How do guests get to a New York incentive trip?

JFK's AirTrain meets the subway and the LIRR, and from there guests are about 20 minutes, plus the AirTrain ride, from Penn Station or Grand Central Madison. LaGuardia's terminals connect to the subway on MTA buses. Newark Liberty International Airport has its own AirTrain to NJ Transit and Amtrak trains into Manhattan. For a reward trip, consider meeting guests at arrivals with a car, and plan it with your planner once flights are known.

Which New York dates should an incentive trip avoid?

UNGA week in late September is the first to check, with the 2027 general debate opening on Tuesday, September 21. New York Fashion Week runs February 10 to 16, 2027, and the TCS New York City Marathon closes streets and bridges on Sunday, November 1, 2026 and Sunday, November 7, 2027. The 100th Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is on Thursday, November 26, 2026, and holiday Gridlock Alert Days fall on dates from November 18 to December 23, 2026. New Year's Eve brings closures around Times Square. May, June and early October steer clear of these.

What makes a New York incentive trip feel like a reward?

Experiences that guests would not arrange alone. A reception in the Palm House at Brooklyn Botanic Garden or a group visit to Historic Richmond Town gives qualifiers a story to take home. Open time matters too: with NYC Ferry serving all five boroughs, guests can explore on their own between hosted moments. If partners are traveling, include them in the welcome and the farewell dinner, and leave the afternoons open for their own plans.

Do we need a local planner for a New York incentive trip?

A trip for qualifiers and their guests has many moving parts: room blocks, arrivals at JFK, LaGuardia and Newark, a welcome dinner, an award evening, private venues that need permits or approvals, and dates that miss UNGA week and the holiday traffic days. A planner who works in New York can hold those pieces together and look after guests on the ground. Send us your dates, who is traveling and what the trip should feel like, and we'll look for a New York planner who fits.
