A company offsite in New York can be a focused day in one neighborhood, with the city's transit doing the heavy lifting. The subway runs 24 hours a day, and NYC Ferry serves waterfront neighborhoods in all five boroughs for a midday reset. Tell us your dates and goals, and we'll look for a planner who fits.

One-day New York offsite in Lower Manhattan

A single working day for a team meeting in Lower Manhattan, with a crossing on the Staten Island Ferry as the midday reset and an optional dinner afterward. Colleagues coming by rail arrive at Moynihan Train Hall, Amtrak's New York home, or at Grand Central Madison.

  1. Day 1

    1. morning: arrivals by rail and subway

Out-of-town colleagues come in through Moynihan Train Hall or Grand Central Madison and take the subway down to a rented room in Lower Manhattan. Coffee and a short check-in come first.

    2. mid-morning: the main working block

The main working block in the Lower Manhattan room, with whiteboards, wall space and lunch delivered.

    3. early afternoon: Staten Island Ferry crossing

A reset on the water. NYC DOT runs the Staten Island Ferry between Lower Manhattan and Staten Island every day of the week, year-round.

    4. late afternoon: groups and close, Lower Manhattan

Back in the Lower Manhattan room, small groups and then the closing round.

    5. evening: dinner, optional

A private room close to the meeting space, or a ride on NYC Ferry, which runs daily to waterfront neighborhoods across all five boroughs, for dinner somewhere new.

  1. Day 2

    1. morning: overnight guests head out

For JFK, the AirTrain connects with the subway and the Long Island Rail Road; for LaGuardia, MTA buses link the terminals to the subway. Rail travelers go back through Moynihan Train Hall or Grand Central Madison.

Airports

For a company offsite, fly into these airports.

JFK: mostly international flights, about 15 miles from Midtown. LaGuardia, LGA: mainly domestic flights, about 8 miles from Midtown and the closest of the three. Newark, EWR: domestic and international flights, about 16 miles from Midtown. Smaller metro airports: Westchester County (HPN), Stewart (SWF) and Long Island MacArthur (ISP).
Getting there

For a company offsite, plan the ground transfer this way.

From JFK, take the AirTrain to the subway or the LIRR; the ride from there to Penn Station or Grand Central Madison takes about 20 minutes, plus the AirTrain. From LaGuardia, MTA buses connect to the subway. From Newark, the AirTrain connects to NJ Transit and Amtrak trains into Manhattan. By rail, Amtrak trains arrive at Moynihan Train Hall, and LIRR trains also run to Grand Central Madison on Manhattan's east side. NYC Ferry runs daily in all five boroughs, and the Staten Island Ferry runs year-round. On Gridlock Alert Days, plan to walk, bike or take transit instead of driving.
Best months
May and June suit a day with time outside, with average highs of 71.4°F and 79.7°F in the National Weather Service's current 30-year normals for Central Park. September and October average 76.2°F and 64.5°F in the same normals, though late September brings UNGA week. January and February suit an indoor day, though February brings 10.1 inches of snow on average in the same normals.
Worst months
Late September, during UNGA week, brings the slowest Midtown traffic of the year and street closures across Manhattan. Mid-November through December adds holiday Gridlock Alert Days and a Midtown construction embargo. January averages a high of 39.5°F in the same Central Park normals, so keep a winter day indoors.
Events to avoid

For a company offsite, these citywide dates book out rooms.

  • UN General Assembly high-level week

Late September; in 2027 the general debate opens Tuesday, Sept 21

For a company offsite: pick another week, or meet downtown so nobody has to cross Midtown by car.

  • Thanksgiving week and the Macy's Parade

    Thursday, Nov 26, 2026 (the 100th parade)

For a company offsite: skip the week; many people travel, and the parade closes streets on its route.

  • Holiday Gridlock Alert Days

    2026: Nov 18, 19 and 24; Dec 2–4, 8–11, 15–18 and 23

For a company offsite: ask everyone to come by subway or rail, and keep lunch and any dinner walkable.

  • New Year's Eve, Times Square

    December 31, 2026

For a company offsite: keep a year-end session well away from Times Square that day.

  • TCS New York City Marathon

    Sunday, Nov 1, 2026 and Sunday, Nov 7, 2027

For a company offsite: a weekday is unaffected, but keep any weekend session off race day, when streets and bridges close.

  • Fourth of July fireworks

July 4 (closures depend on that year's launch site)

For a company offsite: skip a waterfront session that week, since bridge and street closures follow the launch site.

City features
  • A walking city

A connected network of sidewalks and street crossings lets a team walk between the session, lunch and a break outside.

  • Citi Bike

Citi Bike has stations across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx, for a short ride at the break or on the way to dinner.

  • Rail into Manhattan

Amtrak trains arrive at Moynihan Train Hall, Amtrak's New York home, and LIRR trains also run to Grand Central Madison on Manhattan's east side.

  • Transit around the clock

The subway runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so an early start or a late finish still has a ride.

  • Ferries for a reset

NYC Ferry runs daily in all five boroughs, and the Staten Island Ferry serves Lower Manhattan every day, year-round.

  • Airport links

JFK and LaGuardia have AirTrain and MTA bus links to the subway for colleagues flying in.

  • Rooms for an added night

About 124,000 hotel rooms were active on average each month in 2025.

Frequently asked questions

When is a good time for a company offsite in New York?

For a day that includes time outside, look at May, June, September or October. The National Weather Service's current 30-year normals for Central Park give average highs of 71.4°F in May, 79.7°F in June, 76.2°F in September and 64.5°F in October. Late September is the exception: UNGA week brings the slowest Midtown traffic of the year, and in 2027 the general debate opens on Tuesday, September 21. Winter works for an indoor day, with January averaging a high of 39.5°F and February bringing 10.1 inches of snow on average, so plan arrivals by transit rather than by car.

Where in New York should we hold a one-day team offsite?

Start with where your people are coming from on the day. A room near Moynihan Train Hall suits colleagues arriving on Amtrak, and the east side near Grand Central Madison suits those coming in on the LIRR. Lower Manhattan suits a team that wants a different setting, with the Staten Island Ferry leaving from there every day of the week for a reset on the water. Wherever you land, pick a room with daylight, and keep lunch and the afternoon in the same building to cut time spent moving.

How do colleagues reach a New York offsite by rail or air?

Amtrak riders arrive at Moynihan Train Hall, Amtrak's New York home, and LIRR trains run directly to Grand Central Madison, below Grand Central Terminal on Manhattan's east side. At JFK, the AirTrain connects with the subway and the LIRR; the ride from there to Penn Station or Grand Central Madison takes about 20 minutes, plus the AirTrain. At LaGuardia, MTA buses link the terminals to the subway. Newark Liberty International Airport connects by AirTrain to NJ Transit and Amtrak trains into Manhattan.

Which New York dates should a company offsite avoid?

UNGA week in late September is the first to check, with extensive street closures across Manhattan that week, and in 2027 the general debate opens on Tuesday, September 21. Thanksgiving week comes next, with the 100th Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday, November 26, 2026. Holiday Gridlock Alert Days fall on November 18, 19 and 24 and on a run of December dates through December 23, 2026. New Year's Eve brings closures and checkpoints around Times Square, July 4 brings closures near the fireworks launch site, and the TCS New York City Marathon closes streets and bridges on Sunday, November 1, 2026 and Sunday, November 7, 2027. A midweek day in May, June or October steers clear of all of them.

Should a New York offsite be one day or include a night?

A New York offsite can work as a single day: people arrive by subway or rail, work through the morning, take a break on the water or on foot, and head home after the report-back. Add a night when colleagues are flying in, when the agenda needs a second morning, or when a long dinner is part of the point. January and February are typically the lowest-demand months for New York City hotels, which helps if you add rooms. If the night away is the center of the plan, our guide to corporate retreats in New York covers that format.

Do we need a local planner for a company offsite in New York?

For one room, one agenda and lunch delivered, many teams book it themselves. A planner who works in New York helps once the day has more pieces: a room that suits the way you work, Wi-Fi and a video link tested before remote colleagues join, a ferry ride or walking break that fits the schedule, a private room for dinner, and transport planned around UNGA week and the holiday traffic days. Send us your dates, a rough agenda and how people are traveling in, and we'll look for a New York planner who fits.
