Q1 Sales Kickoff (SKO) destinations from Chicago

A Chicago kickoff in Q1 is usually an escape from the cold. Nashville is the short hop, about 1.5–2 hours, and still wintry. Scottsdale and Miami deliver real warmth in three to four hours. Las Vegas brings convention scale when reps fly in from across the country.

A sample two- to three-day agenda.

In Nashville, plan everything indoors and save the energy for the evening; the Opry House is next door to the Gaylord. In Scottsdale and Miami, schedule outdoor dinners and keep one afternoon free. In Las Vegas, set a firm end time each day so the Strip does not eat the next morning.

  1. Day 0. Arrivals and a welcome reception.
  2. Day 1. CEO or CRO keynote, product and compensation-plan sessions, segment breakouts, and a team dinner.
  3. Day 2. Enablement workshops and role-play, a customer or partner panel, and an awards night.
  4. Day 3, optional. A half-day leadership session, then departures.

Questions planners ask first.

Short answers for a Q1 sales kickoff.

What is the shortest Q1 trip from Chicago?

Nashville, at about 1.5–2 hours. It is milder than Chicago, with January highs near 49°F, but not warm, so programming stays indoors.

Where will a Chicago team find the most reliable warmth?

Miami, at about 76°F by day in January, followed by Scottsdale at about 68°F with very little rain.

Which Q1 dates should a Chicago team avoid?

In 2027: CES in Las Vegas from January 6 to 9, the WM Phoenix Open week in Scottsdale from February 8 to 14, and the South Beach Wine & Food Festival in Miami from February 25 to 28.

Which option handles 300 or more people best?

Las Vegas or Nashville. Mandalay Bay has 3,209 rooms and Gaylord Opryland has 2,888, both with large convention space under the same roof.

How early should a Chicago team book a February kickoff?

For about 200 people at a resort, six to nine months ahead is a sensible lead time, earlier if the dates overlap a major event in the destination.
